The Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce (VACC) is pleased to announce that its past Saturday relief event, Asia for Myanmar and China was a great success.

The concert was held at the Amphitheatre of SunTrust bank downtown Richmond and was a resounding success with 172 attending, filling one of the largest bank theatre facilities in Richmond.

A team of 54 artists and performers - with half of the concert performers being under 18 years of age from the Chinese, Indian, Tibetan, Burmese, and Japanese communities -- were the bright stars of the enchanting show, receiving multiple loud standing ovation from an enthusiastic and engaged Richmond audience. Most of the performers are business members of the Chamber.

VACC hosts the concert to support two relief efforts by the American Red Cross / Richmond Chapter and the Grace Chinese Baptist Church in Richmond as a result of the two deadly natural disasters in Asia in May 2008 which killed a total of over 200,000 peoples in Myanmar and China and left hundreds of thousands others homeless.

"Asia for Myanmar and China" as a relief event represents the increased focus that the Asian Chamber is placing on matters related to the spirit of giving and philanthropy of the Asian business communities when it comes to helping with humanitarian causes and safety awareness," said Tinh Phan, VACC Chairman.

Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce works in partnership with SunTrust Bank and Apsaras Dance Group, Middleton Kung Fu and Fitness School, and the Richmond Wu Style Taiji Association; The Chinese Dance Group, Seirin Dojo, and Taiji Garden, as well as a dozen of community supporters partners in event promotion such as: The Roomstore, Ukrops, Sam's Club, the Hispanic Liaison Office, and the Greater Richmond Partnership to outreach to the Richmond community and create a three-hour concert showcasing our business members' native cultures to help raise funds and satefy awareness.

"The Asia for Myanmar and China organizing team would like to thank all those who were involved in the evening but particularly the Virginians from all walks of life who helped us surpass our mission and raise such a phenomenal awareness and donation for a good cause. All the money raised goes to help vulnerable victims in Myanmar and China," Phan said.

"Donations to the organizations can still be made by visiting: greaterrichmond.redcross.org and gcbcr.org respectively," he added.

The preceding was compiled from a VACC news release.
