By now, everyone knows that things are shaking in Manchester. Those living on the south side of the river have options for coffee, food and entertainment that didn't exist a few years ago. Artworks, together with Plant Zero's complex of performance spaces, galleries, coffee shops and studios, have helped make Manchester a destination in its own right.
Manchester venues wisely chose not to compete with First Fridays, and instead began their own tradition, Fourth Fridays. On the last Friday of the month galleries open new shows, area businesses host events and street performers and musicians set-up at select locations.
This month, Fourth Fridays is back in action, with new shows at Artspace, Artworks, Guy Crittenden Gallery, and 1212 Gallery. If you get there early, Savor, Manchester's celebrated new addition (a couple doors down from Scoot, Richmond's shop for all things scooter, in the Corrugated Box Building), has coffee and food.
Stick around after the openings because Scoot will be showing Pee Wee's Big Adventure outdoors right after the sun goes down, around 9 p.m. It's like a drive-in but only with scooters. Legend Brewery is next door for those who want a beer before the show. It all happens within a four or five block area so it's easy to walk from one venue to the next.
All the fun happens this Friday, June 27th. For more information on happenings and times in Manchester: www.artworksrichmond.com, www.cvco.org/arts/artspace, www.1212galleryrichmond.com, www.scootrichmond.com, www.crittendenstudio.com. Call Savor Café at (804) 52-SAVOR.
