To raise awareness of the vital role rail plays in our nation’s transportation system, the City of Richmond will join Amtrak and other partner organizations in celebrating the first annual National Train Day in a public event at Main Street Station on Saturday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. The station is located at 1500 E Main Street.

Media and the public are encouraged to attend the celebration, which will include speakers from around the Commonwealth, light refreshments and the arrival of the #67 Daily train from Washington, D.C. at 10:12 a.m.

Speaking will be: Viktoria Badger, Principal Planner in the City’s Department of Public Works; Chip Badger, Deputy Director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation; and Daniel L. Plaugher, Executive Director of Virginians for High Speed Rail.

“We are very pleased to have the City of Richmond join the National Train Day celebration,” said David Lim, Chief Marketing Officer for Amtrak. “Trains are an important part of life in Richmond now as they have been for over 100 years. It is great to have the City aboard.”

From refuse collection to pothole reports, Customer Care Center representatives are available at 3-1-1 to assist citizens with all of their Public Works needs. For more information on the City of Richmond, visit www.RichmondGov.com.
