ASK THE EXPERT We want to sell our home, but it’s not in “showroom condition.” What improvements will get us the biggest bang for the buck? Probably the least expensive improvement you can make to your home and yield the greatest return is PAINT. Tackle the job yourself, and the return is that much greater. Ask your local paint store what the most popular colors are, and stick with the more subdued shades. You don’t need to necessarily make everything offwhite, but stick with colors that today’s buyers appreciate. New siding and windows are more expensive endeavors, but if yours are in need of replacement, studies show that these improvements typically yield good returns. Kitchens and Bathrooms are the areas that can “wow” a buyer, but you need not spend a fortune re-doing them. Simply replacing hardware, updating fixtures and lighting and perhaps adding LED under-cabinet lighting can make a world of difference. New counter tops are another good investment. Last, but not least, get ORGANIZED! Less is more when selling your house, so get rid of the clutter and utilize wall hooks, baskets, drawer organizers, etc. to help with the task.
