No airport lines. No traffic. No questionable hotels. There are so many amazing benefits to having a staycation right in your own hometown. And whether you book a room at a local hotel or have a cozy staycation inside your own house, here are some tips to planning the staycation of your dreams.
Splurge on a nice hotel. When you think how much money you’re saving because you’re not buying airplane tickets or filling up your gas tank for a road trip, it’s becomes clear that booking a nice hotel is a smart splurge. Look for a hotel that offers all the amenities you like. Maybe a pool, spa, nightly turn down? It’s your vacation. Do what makes you happy!
Enjoy a spa session. Nothing says vacation like a spa treatment. Turn off your phone, put on your “out of office” message and head to your favorite local spa. Or maybe book a service at a spa you’ve never been to before. (New spa=true vacation feel!) Another option? Have a spa staycation at home with your best friends or daughters. Hire a masseuse, a nail technician or an aesthetician to come to your home and set up stations for your friends and family.
Book a table at a fancy local restaurant. Whether you’re having a staycation with your significant other or your entire family, make a reservation at a restaurant you’ve been dying to try. Or, go all out and have a “Gourmet” weekend and book spots at all the city’s best restaurants. This will give you a chance to see everything your city has to offer in one short weekend.
Pretend you’re a tourist. This is your perfect chance to experience all your city has to offer, from museums to ballparks to famous landmarks and local parks. (Unless you have small children, you’ve probably haven’t been to many local museums or attractions since you were a kid — here is your chance!) A hometown staycation is a great excuse to see all the newest exhibits and attractions around town, plus return to your favorite childhood spots.
Have a movie marathon. Thanks to all the streaming services currently available, it’s so easy to a “Movie Marathon” staycation weekend right in your own living room, complete with popcorn, handmade movie tickets and all the candy you can dream of! For a fun twist, create a score sheet for every movie, and everyone can jot down notes about their favorite movies and actors. End the weekend with a winner for “Best Picture.”
Hit an amusement park. After a year of closures and Covid-19 outbreaks, amusements parks are opening back up again. Act like a kid again while riding roller coasters, Ferris wheels and go-karts! Or, even better? Try a water park near your home with a water slides, a wave pool or even a lazy river. Anything outdoors is fun for the whole family.
