Companies selected for Richmond’s Top Workplaces

The winners are in.

Fifty companies have been selected as Richmond’s Top Workplaces by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Workplace Dynamics. But you will have to wait until May to find out the top businesses in each of the three size categories. The winners will be announced at the Sterling Workplace Awards program May 8 and in a special section of The Times-Dispatch to be published May 9.

Richmond SHRM, a chapter of the national Society for Human Resource Management, will honor all 50 of Richmond’s Top Workplaces at the Sterling Workplace Awards event in addition to revealing the overall winner in each of the categories and winners in special categories.

The program will be held at the University of Richmond.

The awards will be based on company size: large (500-plus employees); medium (150 to 499) and small (149 or fewer). Ten companies in each the large and medium categories and 30 businesses in the small category are finalists.

The Times-Dispatch teamed with Workplace Dynamics, a suburban Philadelphia-based company that has conducted workplace surveys for dozens of other newspapers across the country.

Workplace Dynamics had employers participate in a comprehensive survey, including having employees completing a short survey about their workplaces. Employers who scored the highest locally — and met national benchmarks — made the list. Workplace Dynamics looked at many factors, including how engaged employees are, how employers encourage community involvement, and how businesses promote diversity.

The process was open to any employer — private, public, government and nonprofit — in the region that had at least 35 employees last fall when the surveying was conducted.
