MECHANICSVILLE – Hanover pounded visiting Mills Godwin Friday night, amassing more than 450 yards total offense as it rolled to a 51-28 victory.
Quarterback Cole Elrod had a hand in nearly half of that yardage. He completed 18 of 25 passes for 149 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also connected for a two-point conversion. Elrod carried the ball 21 times for 75 yards, three touchdowns and three more two-point conversions.
Beau Sahnow was the next most productive player for Hanover. He had 10 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two pass receptions for 26 yards and one touchdown, and caught one of Elrod’s two-point conversion passes.
James Poole had four carries for the Hawks for 67 yards and a touchdown and four receptions for 44 yards. Benjamin Chadwick had seven carries for 34 yards.
Sahnow and Poole were part of a balanced receiver corps in which each one finished with double-digit yardage. Chase Flora had six receptions for 40 yards. Trent Turpin and Rock Shraa each had three receptions, Turpin for 22 yards and Schraa for 17.
Defensively, the Hawks were led by Zachary Tyler with 8.5 tackles – one for loss – and Jackson Curry with 6.5, one of them a sack. Payton Seelmann had four tackles and an interception.
Mills Godwin was led by quarterback Luke Calveric, who completed 13-of-19 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns. His prime target was Nick Clark, who finished with eight receptions for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
