Tula microphone

PLG-GADGETS-1-MCT

Tuka Mic connects to a computer with a USB-C connection but also works as a standalone portable audio recorder with 8GB of internal memory. (Tula/TNS)

The pocket-sized Tula microphone is packed with features. As a standalone portable audio recorder, it holds 8GB of internal memory and has a 700 mAh-lithium ion battery lasting up to 10-12 hours with noise reduction (or up to 14 hours without it).

The built-in noise reduction removes unwanted background sound. The specifications list the frequency range as 50-20k, with a bit depth/sample rate of 24-bit 48kHz.

Recording is done in two manners. The cardioid unidirectional setting is highly sensitive to sound directly in front of the microphone; the omnidirectional setting gathers audio from all directions. You can switch between modes with the mic select button on the side of the device.

Other side buttons control gain, playback, volume, noise reduction and power. A pair of LED lights on the front indicate gain levels, low battery, full memory and recording status.

The retro-looking Tula is about the size of a deck of playing cards (3.8-by-2.5-by-.98 inches), with a 3.5mm jack for headphones or a clip-on microphone. Its flip stand allows multi-directional rotation for recording at the best angle.

Its .wav audio files are accessible when the Tula is connected to a computer (via USB-C, cable included).

The ports are on the side of the 9.375-by-5.25-by-3.75-inch base, with silicone dividers on top to keep each device separated and protected. Temperature protection is built in to further ensure safe charging.

Monos Kiyo UVC bottle

PLG-GADGETS-2-MCT

The Monos Kiyo purifying water bottle has a USB-C charging port, built into the top cap and is covered by a water-resistant tab. (Monos/TNS)

The Monos Kiyo purifying water bottle is a simple way to ensure you have clean drinking water anywhere, and eliminates many plastic water bottles from your life.

It holds 500 mL (17 ounces), measures just over 9 inches tall and weighs 11 ounces. A carrying handle aids portability.

The Kiyo’s screw-top cap holds the purifying power with UVC technology and 400 mAh of battery. Monos states the Kiyo purifies water in as little as 60 seconds, and neutralizes up to 99.99% of bacteria in deep clean mode.

A USB-C charging port is built into the cap and covered by a water-resistant tab. Once it’s charged, cleaning starts with a swipe across the cap, activating the UVC purification system. Swipe once for a quick clean (indicated by a blue light), and twice for a 3-minute deep clean (green light). A full charge of the battery takes three hours and should last for a month. A USB-C charging cable is included.

The bottle’s design is inspired by handmade artisan pottery with a speckled texture. It’s built with tritan, silicone, stainless steel and silex glass. With its double-wall vacuum insulation, beverages will stay hot for 12 hours or cold for 24 hours. Hand wash the bottle with warm water and soap.
