Goochland's Conner Popielarz 1st in age, weight class, sets new records in weightlifting event

Goochland High School’s Conner Popielarz competes in the 2020 East Coast Gold Olympic weightlifting competition.

VIRGINIA BEACH – Goochland High School rising senior Conner Popielarz, competing in the 2020 East Coast Gold Olympic weightlifting competition held the weekend of July 31 – Aug. 2 in Virginia Beach, placed first in his age/weight class and third overall in open class competing against adults of all ages and weight.

In his age/weight class he tied the Virginia state snatch record at 115 kilos and broke the Virginia state record for clean & jerk at 145 kilos. He also broke the total combination lift record in one event.

Popielarz has qualified for nationals, which are currently still scheduled to be held this December in Atlanta.
