Who is gonna pay all that "free" stuff?
I don't see anything wrong with a free city transit system. It gets people to and from their jobs. It reduces the number of cars downtown which reduces carbon emissions and frees up parking space for tourists and restaurant goers.
Melissa while stop at "free" transportation? While not just give them the whole city. Free housing, free food, free medical, free to commit crimes.
Hyperbole and hysteria runs deep in you.
tourists? Are they going to see burned buildings, looted stores or toppled statues?
If it's free, there won't be any security officers to enforce payment of fares. Passengers will definitely need to carry a concealed weapon when riding the bus.
city just banned them from doing so. no more carry, concealed or otherwise.
Breaking News .....
Lefties, did you see, and listen, to the Man in the Basements pick of women of color last night .... She messed up big time and told us what "her administration” would be doing "to" America.
Biden isn't the only one who needs a teleprompter to speak. Period.
Tracy, did she really mess up?, or did she tell the truth. that she and her buddies would be pulling the strings on their Joe Biden marionette, I believe it is the latter, and that should scare EVERY American. People will vote for senile old Joe, and get deep statge operatives that will answer to nobody, and wee saw how that worked our with the Barack Hussein Obama administration spying scandals............Our rights and freedoms will be taken by force, by faceless bureaucrats that will answer to nobody but themselves.
Any way you spin it will mean higher taxes. Stoney et al are just pandering as usual. They need to get a real job in the real world.
"The three candidates who support a move to free public transit, Mayor Levar Stoney, 2nd District Councilwoman Kim Gray and Alexsis Rodgers, the Virginia director for Care in Action, all say it would help economically distressed residents who depend on public transit to work and run errands."...........Typical Socialists all, they are promoting and promising that freeloaders will be at the top of their list if elected. Public transportation ALWAYS fails, because it can't afford to pay for itself, and so taxpayers, many of whom never use the crummy public transportation end up paying a substantial part of the cost, and it shouldn't be that way EVER. Now, these three Democratic Socialists want to go full freeloader, and transfer the costs to the taxpayers of Richmond, and eventually to all Virginia taxpayers...........This is a 100% losing position, demanding that people who have never used, and will never use the GRTC bus system pay 100% of the costs, and due to GRTC's derelict management and careless operations, looses tons of money every year, which must be made up by taxpayers, and those taxpayers will be on the hook for everything. Richmond is a horribly mismanaged, very poorly run city, because of decisions like this, and raising taxes to fund free rides for freeloaders is only going to make it worse.............When the failed Richmond politicians come to the counties hat in hand for funding, don't just say no, tar them, feather them and then boot them back into the toilet that is Richmond, and tell them NOT TO COME BACK FOR MONEY.
There is no such thing as free. Someone is working to pay for the free stuff. Taxes will go up and that will hurt everyone.
Yep, but that is how Democratic Socialists roll Cheryl, and they certainly don't care about the taxpayers, other than as a source of money.
But Fred, it's the Richmond taxpayers who will be voting. If they choose to re-elect Stoney, that, sir, is how elections work.
As Milton Friedman famously said "there is no such thing as a free lunch" Democrats love giving away "free" stuff failing only to turn around and raise taxes to pay for the "free" stuff. As long as Richmond keeps electing Democrats it will only get worse. So glad I moved away
"Office of Equitable Transit and Mobility"... sure does have an Orwellian sound about it. Stoney had best get used to some belt-tightening as he watches the city that he destroyed go down the financial drain. The exodus from another Democrat-run dystopia has begun. The isolation from the surrounding suburbs is already evident. We are not coming into the dangerous streets of Richmond.
Except for students and VCU employees commuting during limited times of the day, makes runs every hour of the day and stop runs at night. A small van can be called at night if transportation is needed. Work within the existing budget. The Pulse is a bust, remove confusing lines on the road. Return free parking on the street to promote downtown business and restaurants growth, the ones Stoney did not allow to be looted and destroyed.
First have GRTC improve service to parts of the city that need the service.
So now we have "Transit Equity"?? Yes, they actually used that phrase in the article!! What the working residents of Richmond REALLY want to know is how high their tax bill will go to cover the cost of this latest freebie. NOTHING is free.
James .... I used to think like that too .... but there are lots of folks getting free stuff and all the candidates for cushy jobs, fame and fortune claim that it why they are running.
Nothing will kill your candidacy any faster than making some outdated comment like, "If you work hard, and take responsibility for yourself, you too have a chance at the American Dream". Period.
What are the odds that “free transit” services, much like the “free schools” in the city will become an unmitigated disaster? Stay tuned!
Michael, you make a great point, the schools in Richmond are some of the most expensive in Virginia and some of the worst, and all they can do is demand more money, waste it all, then demand MORE MONEY as the schools continue to get worse...........Now that may sound like success to Democrats, but in reality it is an EPIC FAIL.
Another piece of "The Great Reset" puzzle is being fitted into the utopian dream. This is what happens when feelings replace personal responsibility.
100% correct Tom, great comment, and the surounding counties governments should be distancing themselves from the meltdown in Richmond NOW, before they and their constituents get sucked into the cesspool that these Democratic Socialists up for election are making much worse.
Ok, first pave the roads - then we can talk extra things like this? Only so much money in the city . . .
Scott .... read the article ..... it will be free.
If there is one thing all political folks know, everyone loves free stuff. Period.
there is no such thing as a free lunch - Milton Friedman
Tell that to the supporters of the Man in the Nasement and Bernie. Period.
