CHARLOTTESVILLE — The University of Virginia’s Title IX coordinator is stepping down.
U.Va. announced Thursday that Kelley B. Hodge submitted her resignation, effective Friday.
Spokesman Anthony de Bruyn said Hodge was leaving to spend more time with her family in Philadelphia “for personal reasons.”
“While at the university, Ms. Hodge provided welcomed leadership and support during a very critical time of change and growth under Title IX,” de Bruyn wrote in a statement.
“Ms. Hodge departs the university as Title IX coordinator but will remain a part of the fabric of U.Va.,” de Bruyn said.
As Title IX coordinator, Hodge ensured the university complied with myriad federal anti-sex discrimination laws.
Hodge’s office also plays an important role in the investigation and adjudication of Title IX cases, in addition to offering education and training.

Hodge, a U.Va. alumna and longtime criminal-case attorney, was hired in 2015. She was the university’s first full-time Title IX coordinator.
The university will conduct a nationwide search to replace Hodge.
In the meantime, Catherine Spear, assistant vice president for equal opportunity programs, will serve as acting Title IX coordinator, de Bruyn said.
