The U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies ended their search for a missing swimmer in Virginia Beach after discovering a body matching the man’s description Sunday.

On Saturday at 7:23 p.m., officials were notified by the Virginia Beach Fire Department about a missing 23-year-old last seen swimming at Dam Neck Beach.

He was seen going under the water wearing dark swim trunks, according to a press release from the Mid-Atlantic Coast Guard.

Crews launched a 45-foot boat from Coast Guard Station Little Creek and a Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department, the Virginia Beach Police Department, Navy Search and Rescue, the Virginia Marine Resource Commission and more assisted in the search.

The Coast Guard ended their search Sunday when the Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire Department found a body matching the description of the missing man.

He has not yet been identified.
