Red states are ahead of VA in recreational Marijuana.
It’s time for VA to catch up!

Oklahoma entered the world of legal cannabis late, but its hands-off approach launched a boom and a new nickname: ‘Toke-lahoma.’”
Legalization is going to happen so it's fruitless to call each other names in social media such as this. Your comments will not change the others minds.
THe real issue is how the additional tax money is spent. I see no proposal saying that income taxes will be reduced and that should be on the table. THe Pew Research Foundation has studied kindergarten education for decades and finds very little if any long term benefits of it. so far it appears to be nothing more than a public babysitting service.
Maybe Northam needs to smoke some so he won't be such a bast--d!
Oh... if preventing one from being a baztard is the goal, Bobby, perhaps you should take it up.
With a insatiable appetite for more tax money our great Commonwealth has cornered, promoted and capitalized on the tobacco, alcohol and gambling in Virginia. Now they are taking over the marijuana business. The question remains what is next- street drugs or prostitution.
The Boggs Act of 1951 amended the Narcotic Drugs Import and Export Act and set mandatory sentences for drug convictions. A first offense conviction for marijuana possession carried a minimum sentence of 2 to 10 years and a fine of up to $20,000.
For almost a hundred years prior it had been used in medicinal products.
Making it illegal in the first place was almost entirely racial, targeting brown and black people.
The laws are so varied from State to State. I remember back in the 60s, when I was growing up, Nebraska had the most liberal punishment of 3 to 5 days in jail first offense. Texas was life in prison first offense. What do you think was in the Indian's peace pipe? It made you feel real peaceful smoking it together with someone you wished to come to terms with. Maybe if the Brown and Black people smoke it or smoke it more, they will mellow out and stop killing people. They'll just be walking around saying "Hey man, what's happening". I think Pelosi and Shummer should smoke some and Northam and the AG. They'll all just be walking around in a fog just saying "Hey man, what's happening". Maybe they'll even get to be like Cheech and Chong!
The left is always looking out for those whose money is in short supply .... I look forward when a snort is legal .... I may be more expensive, but more elite, we we all wants to be one of the elites, like liberal Hollywood, who snorts whether they gots any cocaine or not. Period.
Missing it in your Coca-Cola, huh?
Nope ... and I have 150 shares of the company too, Comrade Melissa. Period.
Wow! $7,000 worth of CC stock! Don't spend it all in one place. LOL!
Not a good time to have to count on stock to take care of yourself. Gambling in these trying times is most unwise.
Nope Comrade Melissa .... and I have 150 shares of the stuff too, which pay a great dividend, so I do not have to depend of Govment to support me in my old age.
Putting your stock in Govment will not make you a rich Socialist Comrade Melissa. Period
Turning down your SS check, huh, Tracy? And you have no need to participate in the Medicare and Advantage Plans, huh? You wouldn't live a week without visiting what you refer to as a socialized program. How about your Trump admin. giving up to $10 Mil. loans with 1% interest to businesses? SOCIALIZED BAILOUTS, Tracy. Get that? And some of it won't even have to be paid back. I predict that before it's all over with, none of it will have to be paid back. So why aren't you screaming about that?
"... licensing program meant to ease entry for people harmed by the disparate enforcement of marijuana laws....", and "..."“Equitable marijuana legalization is an important step towards justice in the commonwealth,” Herring said. “For far too long, marijuana laws have targeted Black and brown communities and enough is enough.”.., what in the world is wrong with these two people? "ease entry" into what, Dr/Gov? "equitable marijuana legalization" means what Mr. AG? Two very atudpid remarks So according to Mr. AG he thinks the GA can make the magic herb legal for some and not others? If these two elected ones thought the laws were being applied incorrectly they should have told the police that they should arrest more white folks not unleash the toked-ups upon society. Another terrible example of "Defining Deviancy Down" and appeasing those that refuse to obey the law. Virginia "elected ones" are doing what any useless over-permissive parent does and the results are disastrous, just ask the bike shop owner in Carytown.
It's similar with what they did by downgrading the educational system so that Blacks could pass. Now everyone gets a lousy education. The Germans by the time they are 16 have an equivalent of 2 years of college here. Here it takes Blacks an average of 7 years to get a BA at Norfolk State University. Most fail out by their 2nd year. But they found a solution to that at one time before they were stopped. Nobody has to show up to class to pass. They just give them the grade! It was just a devious way to get it over on white people with a real education. Black and a degree, they broke the glass ceiling. A noble cause! This is going to put a hurting on Blacks though by legalizing MJ.. My wife taught at one of the lower primarily Black elementary schools in Virginia Beach and 99% of the time when the kids were asked what they wanted to be when they got out of school, they replied, a basketball player or a drug dealer! You are narrowing down these poor kid's choices, Northam!

So what should we do if say, Hispanics or Asians get arrested 3.5 times more than whites for smoking crack. Do we now legalize crack to provide legal equity. Northam continues to pander because of his yearbook picture.
Crack is the same exact drug as powder cocaine, preferred by white people... EXACT SAME!!! Why is it that sentences for crack v. powder are 8 times longer??? Why, Black people refer crack.... ~~~ Bob
That statement is blatantly misleading and you should known better. Crack is a different form of the drug that makes it much more dangerous to users and to society. Your woke-ism gets in the way of the facts.
I thought he looked good in Black!
There are federal authorities to handle all the hooplah in D.C. Virginia's Governor should be HERE handling Covid vaccinations.
[offtopic]
And legalizing marijuana should wait until after Virginia's leaders get a handle on the Covid pandemic.
Puff, Puff, Pass. Brah, not a good idea unless your a cancer patient or maybe some other serious medical condition. I puffed my share of the devils weed as a youth and to tell you the truth, best not make it legal if you can avoid it. Not listen, don't throw people in jail for using it either. Waste of taxpayer money and clogs the courts. Simple, small fine, no taking the license away (unless caught driving) and education of the youth (I didn't listen and neither will the kids today) but legal don't make it right. Take it from Polk, you don't have to cough to get off!
There’s a good chance that it’s usage might increase slightly but chances are that most of us who choose to smoke will continue, legal or not. Might as well have the tax money for it go towards the community.
But Jeff, Legalizing it sends the wrong message to our youth! Most people who use Meth will continue to use it legally or not but do we legalize it for tax money, of course not the same for the gateway drug marijuana!
Booze is legal so what kind of message does that send to our youth (who smoke and drink behind our backs anyway).
Smartest comment on this thread. Kudos Jeff Woods!
Potheads of course agree, you live in CA why do you comment on Va. matters, you have no vote here?
This exactly. I'm a grown-@ss adult and should be able to smoke a freaking plant if I want to.
I guess they made gambling legal in Virginia, like it is now in different forms, for tax revenue. Everything is about money and not the welfare of the people. Maybe it will be prostitution next like in Nevada after they get done legalizing MJ. What great morality these politicians have. One thing just leads to the next. Make every thing wrong, legal. The more money the merrier. I remember when they overturned the Blue Laws here and made homosexuality legal. We all know God doesn't approve of these things. You can look for it yourself so I will not give you a reference but of the things you practice which will never get into the kingdom of heaven, one is witchcraft, in the KJV. That word is actually pharmaceuitica from the Greek, the word from which you get pharmaceutical, which means drugs! So get high as h--l now, and enjoy it now, because there won't be any drugs in h--l.
It will cause a rise in lung cancer I'll bet. Does the governor want that on his plate? One joint I hear is like smoking 3 cartons of cigarettes because of the tar. Maybe he is just trying to off Black people?
It does not cause a rise in lung cancer in the states where it is legal. Why should VA be different?
Where’s your evidence?
Keep in mind that there is no test for marijuana usage for an impaired driver. Legal MJ will double the number of drunks on the roadways.
There’s no breathalyzer for marijuana but they still have field sobriety tests they can use to determine how impaired the driver is. And just as it is now, if you drive high and get caught you’ll go to jail. Just as you would for drinking.
Does a blood test prove a limit?
If cannabis growing conditions are similar to tobacco this could be a huge agricultural renaissance for VA!
They aren't!
So would opium but we don't need to grow it! A drug is a drug and is legalizing marijuana the right message we send to our youth. Legalizing this gateway drug will cause more harm than good!
Cannabis is no more a “gateway drug” then tobacco or liquor and items much less hard on the body
Actually, it does more good than harm in states like CO.
“ A new state report on marijuana in Colorado found that arrests have dropped significantly since recreational sales began in 2014, primarily because possession charges have plummeted.
The Colorado Department of Public Safety report, released Friday, also concluded that use among youths does not appear to be increasing, that traffic deaths directly attributable to marijuana are down and that revenues have nearly quadrupled since 2014 to $247 million.
What’s not to love?
Truly spoken by a moron!
Don’t be so hard on yourself, Bobby
Keep them high and unaware of what dems are doing.
Says the guy who supports a racist and treasonous president...

Versus getting jacked up on meth and storming government buildings, maybe killing a few cops like Republicans.
Ha Ha Ha! That was good!
What else can Northam do to hurt Virginia -what an idiot !
He hasn’t done anything but help VA so far... why would you expect otherwise?
That is only your twisted opinion, Butler. God forbids it!
We have the best governor in the country.
This must be sarcasm
You mean, he should be more like Rick Snyder who's under indictment now?
Northam's a decent guy.
A baby killer like Joseph Mengele? You are sick!
Do you live with Satan ?
Best for lowlifes and criminals!
Legalize weed now.....The sooner the better....
Ha,l I'm sure whether it is legal or not hasn't stopped you from smoking it!
I'll bet you are right!
Revenue benefits from legalized weed are a sham and fairy tale told by stoners. The cost of regulated marijuana can never come close to the black-market price.
I think your math might be wrong, let’s check.
Illegal weed sales = $0 in state tax revenue. Legal weed sales = 21% tax of a multimillion dollar cash crop. Yep, your wrong. As for the cost to the consumer, I’ll deal with it. It’ll be nice to have a large amount of strains to choose from instead of whatever your dealer has.
How do you intend to deal with drug testing? That will not go away.
Excellent Jeff Woods!
What ever tax money that comes in will be squandered anyway. There is never enough money and they will always want more. It never ends!
Pothead cheering section again!
We're all so excited you get to smoke some double kush berry gum drop and all , but why don't you do the math. Virginia had 50 billion in tax revenue in 2019. Wow, a 20% levee on a 'multimillion dollar cash crop' is really going to make a dent in that. Maybe will allow us to upgrade the cable package at the methadone clinics. Then let's factor in other costs such as medical care, rising insurance rates, and the inevitable use of harder drugs which no doubt leads to higher-crime.
Not exactly true Jack Partley...and I order what I prefer...so I know what I'm getting.
You just admitted to a crime, Odell. Are the cops watching?
LOL! Bobby Q. LOL!
Legalized weed is long overdo.
Talk of criminal justice and equality is a sideshow;, the main attraction is the anticipated revenue stream that the state is now missing with the underground market.
Right - it is all about the money
Are you new? Everything is nowadays. Why see that as a downside as not an opportunity? Because you don’t like what they’re selling?
Exactly, Jeff, I don't like it for what damage it will do such as increase youth using it and more addicts from this gateway drug!
Then you’ll be happy to know, William that the science says those things you fear don’t happen.
It depends on the person, Butler.
Drake, I don't need science I've dealt with it with my employment for 40 years. Ask an addict what drug he used first and why he moved on to other drugs! You are such a mouthy idiot!
And later the lives ruined, cost of rehab and families are broken from the gateway drug leading to stronger drugs & addiction!
