As we find ourselves in the middle of Hispanic Heritage Month and in recognition of the explosive growth of the Hispanic-American community in Virginia, it is more important than ever that our representatives do not take us for granted. As the chairperson for the Nuestro Cuccinelli Advisory Team, I can attest to the fact that Ken Cuccinelli has actively engaged with the Hispanic/Latino community in Virginia by reaching out and listening to us.
By engaging with our community, Cuccinelli has heard firsthand about the plight of the small businessperson who is being burdened with the lack of capital, increased regulations and higher taxes. He also shares the values that we hold dear: our love of family, country and individual freedom; our entrepreneurial spirit and the need to ensure that our children get a good education. Cuccinelli takes these things into consideration when he addresses the issue of immigration. Hispanics, like all other citizens of Virginia, are concerned about jobs, the economy and education.
Cuccinelli has spent more than a decade in public office fighting to increase the quality of life for all Virginians.

He has remained committed to reducing the tax burden on Virginia families and regulatory barriers to economic growth in order to secure our economic future and prosperity for future generations. And elevating Virginia to be the trade capital of the East Coast is one of his most important goals; with the widening of the Panama Canal, Virginia can bring in new business from South and Central America. Cuccinelli wants Virginia to capitalize on the new emerging Hispanic markets.
Building on Virginia’s successes also means that the state must address the education gap that some communities in our state experience. Cuccinelli believes every child, regardless of location or wealth, deserves an opportunity to receive a world-class education because no child in Virginia should be forced to remain in a failing school. He knows that giving parents and students more freedom to make important decisions in their education will only serve to strengthen our communities.
Finally, Cuccinelli understands that the current immigration system is broken and that it needs to be fixed at the federal level. Reforms are needed; in the past Cuccinelli proposed a positive reform to encourage citizenship. He also believes in improving border security, legal immigration and workplace enforcement. His record in this area stands in stark contrast to his opponent’s. Just a few years ago Terry McAuliffe said, “I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, we all agree you’ve got to shut the borders down.” He would later blame immigrants for taking “our jobs.” Cuccinelli has spent his entire career standing up to this kind of rhetoric, and he will continue to do so as governor.
As we celebrate our heritage this month, we look forward to the growing role our community will play in ensuring Virginia’s economy remains among the strongest in America. Like any Virginian, I want a governor who will fight for everyone’s best interests, no matter who they are or where they come from. Ken Cuccinelli has been doing that his entire life, and I know he will continue to do so as governor.
