A big weekend for Michael Robinson culminated with a big Saturday announcement.

Robinson, a former Penn State and Seattle Seahawks player, hosted his annual celebrity waiter dinner and football camp.

At Saturday’s youth football camp, Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney was on hand to announce the city will partner with Robinson’s Excel to Excellence Youth Football League, which will begin play this fall.

Stoney noted Robinson’s commitment to developing area youth through the foundation.

Robinson, who attended Varina High, works with students there to improve their academic performance as part of the Excel to Excellence Foundation.

He also hosts his annual camp, where several hundred children braved the rain Saturday to hear from Robinson and other NFL stars.

Those stars also participated in Friday night’s celebrity waiter dinner, which was held for the first time at Main Street Station.

Hall of Famer Franco Harris was the headliner, but dozens of other players, including ex-Bears running back Matt Forte, and Richmond’s Morgan Moses and Maurice Canady, participated.

Robinson called each of the players to the stage for a brief interview and took the opportunity to have some fun with Moses.

“Are y’all gonna win more games this year?” he asked.

Moses was quick to respond: “Did we not beat Seattle last year?”
