The classic tale about honor, friendship and loyalty comes to Abingdon this spring as The Barter Theatre hosts “The Three Musketeers.” This witty and action-packed adventure filled with daring sword fights, secret plots and sweeping romance will open on March 14 and run through April 4 at the Barter Theatre.
This swashbuckling classic is sure to be an adventure for the whole family. Joined by his band of fearless Musketeers, young D’Artagnan must learn what it truly means to fight for honor, loyalty and the people he loves. Specially adapted for Barter’s resident acting company by playwright-in-residence Cathy Bush, “The Three Musketeers” brings the beloved classic to life with thrilling stage combat and high-spirited storytelling.

Barter Theatre, the nation’s longest-running professional theater, is located in Abingdon, Virginia. The theater opened in 1933 during the Great Depression. Founder Robert Porterfield offered patrons admission to the theater by bartering food and livestock. Barter Theatre was designated as the State Theatre of Virginia in 1946. It exists today as one of the last year-round professional resident repertory theaters remaining in the United States.
