From the outset, Salomon & Ludwin was never meant to be the biggest firm on the block. Instead, it was always meant to be grounded in integrity. Headquartered in Richmond, the firm provides wealth management and financial planning services to individuals, couples and families.
For CFO and Founding Partner Dalal Salomon, that conviction was shaped early. “I didn’t come from wealth,” she said. “I came from a working-class background where financial security wasn’t assumed — it was earned, protected and deeply valued.” When she launched her company in 1984 in Richmond, the goal was to build something predicated on “integrity, logic and genuine care for people.”
That ethos found a natural counterpart with Daniel Ludwin, President and Founding Partner. “Dan and I shared the same conviction: Financial advice should be about people first, not products, and certainly not predictions,” said Salomon. “We wanted to bring logic, empathy and structure to an industry that often lacked all three.”
Ludwin shared Salomon’s instinct to return to fundamentals. “We built the firm around a simple but powerful idea — that success isn’t about outperforming a benchmark; it’s about solving real problems in people’s lives,” he said. That meant creating highly customized strategies, rooted in each client’s goals and circumstances. It also meant thinking beyond quarters or years. “We think in generations,” he said.
Salomon & Ludwin’s identity has also been shaped by its roots in Richmond, a relationship-driven community where longevity, trust and reputation matter. That environment has reinforced the firm’s long-term mindset, as many client relationships extend across families, businesses and generations.
Over time, those principles have not constrained growth but defined it, said Salomon. The firm has deliberately expanded, guided by a single question in all its dealings: Is this in our clients' best interests?
Ludwin agrees. “No to shortcuts. No to scaling at the expense of service,” he said. The firm’s proprietary TriggerPoint™ strategy, a rules-based system designed to take the emotion out of investing, reflects a broader commitment to clarity and consistency.
Jacob Salomon, CFP®, CCO and Managing Partner, grew up watching his mother’s company take shape, and describes a culture where “integrity wasn’t something we talked about occasionally — it showed up in every decision, every conversation, every plan.” “The foundation was built on trust and relationships,” he said. “My responsibility is to ensure that that foundation remains strong while we integrate new tools, leverage more advanced data, and evolve how we serve the next generation of clients.”
All three executives say that success is measured less by market outperformance and more by how comfortable and secure their clients feel. Dalal recalls clients expressing something simpler than financial gain: One said, “I finally feel like I can breathe.” Ludwin points to moments of reassurance during market volatility, when one client wanted to convert their entire portfolio to cash (they ultimately withstood the downturn and came out stronger). And for Jacob, the clearest sign of success is continuity — when a strategy, and the values behind it, transfer confidently across generations.
Integrity, said Dalal, remains at the core of every decision, every piece of financial advice. “It’s not just a statement, it’s a discipline,” she said. “As the next generation of leadership continues to evolve the firm, the goal is not to change who we are, but to strengthen it. Because ultimately, this was never just about building a firm. It was about supporting people and families in a way that lasts.”
