It’s all silver and gold this year — for decking out the home in holiday cheer.
“The holiday colors are timeless and chic,” said Will Chambers, creative merchandiser and buyer for u-fab interiors. “The metallic mix adds a shiny and glam touch to any décor. Simply put, it’s a beautiful combination when decorating any home for the holidays. A couple of years ago, people were going with bright and colorful. This year, it seems to be more monochromatic. It’s just a look that easily complements everything.”
As the buyer for u-fab interiors for the past 12 years, Chambers should know. He peruses merchandise marts, thrift stores and antique and boutique shops throughout the year, searching for that specific look and new trend that will help holiday enthusiasts turn their home into a winter wonderland.
“The beauty of Christmas is that it’s the one time of year where it’s okay to be over the top. You can experiment with anything and go all out — in fact, glitter and glam are expected. It’s always been my favorite time of year,” he said. “For example, everybody seems to have the heirloom snow villages that sit on top of their mantel or piano and this year, we decided to create our own for our showroom.”
The large-scale magical snow globe village features miniature houses, storefronts, dog houses and even a vintage gas station. In fact, one of the wreaths Chambers has created for purchase includes some vintage items that match the snow globe’s décor.
“This is definitely the biggest Christmas display we’ve ever done,” he said. “In the past, we have mainly concentrated our holiday display section to one area of the store. This year, the magic of the season comes to life across the entire store.”
Chambers said it took one hectic night with his showroom ‘elves’ to transform the space into a glimmering holiday showcase. There are two Christmas trees filled with holiday decorative delights, as well as hand-painted ornaments, swag, garlands and wreaths that adorn the store’s stairs, railing and balcony.
The biggest piece of holiday advice Chambers has for customers is to continue finding the joy in decorating.
“If it is a chore to simply hang something up, you can easily begin to resent the whole process,” he said. “You need to see the beauty of your decorations. Decorating shouldn’t be a stressful activity.”
Chambers said he doesn’t see much stress among the u-fab holiday customers. In fact, he admitted the best part of his job — besides the decorating, of course — is watching people’s faces light up when they first see the decorations in the store.
“Everything we have is grab and go,” he said. “No ordering online and worrying about delayed deliveries. There’s no extra fluffing or extra work needed to make the décor work for you,” he said. “Everything we have here you can pick out, put it in your cart and hang it up immediately when you get home.”
