“A Long Arc: Photography and the American South since 1845”
This exhibition provides an extensive journey through the American South’s history, as seen through the lenses of photographers from 1845 to the present. Featuring over 180 works, it captures everyday life, significant historical moments and the evolving identity of the region. Organized by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, “A Long Arc” is the first major exhibition in more than 25 years to explore the full history of photography in and about the South.
“American, born Hungary: Kertész, Capa, and the Hungarian American Photographic Legacy”
Curated by VMFA director and CEO Alex Nyerges, this exhibition highlights the profound impact of Hungarian-born photographers on 20th century American photography. Displaying more than 170 works, the exhibition highlights the contributions of artists like André Kertész and Robert Capa, who were pioneers in their own right with their innovative techniques used in photojournalism, advertising and fashion photography. The exhibition examines their artistry and considers the perseverance with which they pursued their craft facing persecution and migration.
