Pathfinders, a group of associates committed to enhancing our associate experience.
CareScout, a Genworth company, has been named one of Richmond-Times Dispatch’s Top Workplaces. For more than 145 years, Genworth has been focused on helping customers navigate caregiving options, protect and grow their retirement income and prepare for the financial challenges that come with aging. Headquartered in Richmond, the company helps improve the aging journey through person-centered care that addresses not only physical health but also mental, social, and spiritual health.
Below is a Q&A with Kelsey Hutchison, communications manager at Genworth and CareScout.
What makes your business special?
Genworth is a publicly traded company focused on empowering families to navigate the aging journey with confidence, now and in the future. Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, Genworth and its CareScout businesses provide guidance, products and services that help people understand their caregiving options and fund their long-term care needs.
With nearly 50 years of experience in the long-term care insurance space, we recognize the challenges people face when navigating the system. Our tradition of commitment, resilience and compassion in service of our customers, community partners, associates and shareholders is a strong foundation for our next chapter as we work to make aging more dignified, connected and fulfilling through CareScout.
How has being named a Top Workplace for 2026 impacted your business internally?
Our associates make Genworth and CareScout a Top Workplace through their commitment to serving our customers and their families. Celebrating this recognition creates a shared moment of pride in what we have accomplished, and it energizes us to continue the important work of building a culture that supports our associates and delivers for our customers.
How do you think this award has helped you recruit and retain new talent?
We are proud to be named a Richmond Top Workplace for the fourth year in a row. This recognition helps us amplify our mission in the communities where we live and work and connects us with people who share our commitment to improving aging care.
What qualities do you believe make your business a Top Workplace?
We believe the best way to strengthen and sustain our businesses is to listen to our associates through regular engagement surveys and focus groups and then act on what we hear. Our associates help us understand what’s working and where we can improve, and we rely on their feedback to guide how we build and maintain a customer-centric culture.
What are some things you have done internally to communicate about Top Workplaces to encourage participation across the organization?
Each year, Genworth and CareScout associates are invited to complete the “Engage Survey” to share how they are feeling about work. We encourage them to take the time to share thoughtful, honest responses so we can turn their feedback into meaningful improvements. We are proud that their input has earned us the Top Workplace recognition for four consecutive years.
From a workplace culture standpoint, what is something you are most proud of that you have implemented, or something unique about your organization that others outside of your organization may not know that you would like them to know?
In 2023, we founded Pathfinders, a cross-functional group of associates who review feedback and collaborate with our businesses to make culture-building recommendations. Recent projects include partnering with our talent development team to create a Growth and Development Month program, launching a #ThankUThursday monthly recognition campaign and hosting webcasts to share culture updates.
