GREEN BAY, Va. – Twin Lakes State Park will celebrate the season with its annual Fall for Twin Lakes Festival on Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Discovery Area.
The crowd-pleasing scarecrow decorating contest is making its comeback, with the winning creation earning a Virginia State Parks gift certificate.
“This annual festival has become a community tradition, welcoming both familiar faces and first-time visitors,” said Twin Lakes State Park Manager Kevin Faubion. “Fall provides a wonderful opportunity for visitors to enjoy the park’s vibrant foliage. Crunchy leaves, cozy vibes and local charm can all be found at our park’s fall festival.”
Guests can enjoy a variety of fall-themed activities, including pumpkin painting, hayrides, and wildlife encounters with animal ambassadors from A.W.A.R.E. and other park exhibitors. Snacks, drinks, pumpkins, and s’mores kits will be available for purchase, offering visitors a chance to roast marshmallows around the campfire.
The festival will also feature a craft marketplace showcasing local artisans and unique handmade goods.
Standard parking fees will apply, or a donation of four non-perishable canned goods will be accepted.
Nocturnal wildlife programs at Twin Lakes
In addition to the festival, the park will host Creatures of the Night, a program that provides guests with a unique opportunity to explore the park’s nocturnal wildlife. The programs are held on Sept. 26, Oct. 2 and 3 at various times throughout the evening.
“The nighttime forest isn’t scary… it’s magical! Come explore the wonder waiting in the dark,” said Chief Ranger of Visitor Experience Brianna Cram. “Meet our furry night crew featuring raccoons and opossums and learn about their after dark shenanigans. Fall is a fun time at the park for the whole family so come out and make some memories this season.”
The program cost is $3 per person (free for those 5 years or younger) and limited to 10 participants per time slot. Advanced registration is required, and fees must be paid at time of reservation. Register by 5 p.m. the day prior at the Discovery Center or over the phone with a credit card by calling 434-408-1587.
