Crews will perform various activities throughout the district, including but not limited to bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush, tree and limb cutting, pothole, surface and shoulder work, surface treatment and paving operations, work orders, mowing, boom axing, drainage repairs and roadside cleanup.

Appomattox County
Route 626 (Holiday Lake Road) – Bridge superstructure replacement (37.427481, -78.714577). Route 626 (Holiday Lake Road) is temporarily closed to through traffic from Route 614 (Forbes Road) to the intersection of Route 24 (Old Courthouse Road). A detour with signage is in place. Expected completion November 2026.
Route 460 Appomattox Bypass (Richmond Highway) – Road reconstruction. Westbound Route 460 has been reduced to one lane and the speed limit reduced to 45 mph through the work zone. Expect delays. An automated photo enforcement system is in place. Maintain proper speed throughout the work zone. Expected completion December 2026.

Campbell County
Route 29 (Wards Road) at Route 699 (Gladys Road) – Intersection improvement project. The left lanes of Route 29 will be closed in both the northbound and southbound directions in the vicinity of the Route 699 (Gladys Road) intersection. The median crossover at the intersection of Route 699 and Route 29 will also be closed. Traffic coming from Route 699 wanting to head south on Route 29 will need to make a right turn and then make a U-turn at the newly constructed bulb-out. Route 29 southbound traffic wanting to turn left onto Route 699 will need to pass the intersection and make a U-turn at the next available median crossover or at the Route 29 Business exit. Expected completion early to mid-October 2026.

Charlotte County
Route 642 (Mossing Ford Road) over Roanoke Creek – Bridge replacement. The bridge over Roanoke Creek is closed with a detour in place to direct traffic. Expected reopening December 2026.

Farmville
Intersection of Griffin Boulevard, High Street, and Oak Street – Intersection improvement project (roundabout). Work will be taking place along the shoulders with intermittent lane closures and flagging operations as needed. Sidewalk closures are expected beginning October 12 along Griffin Boulevard and High Street. Expect delays. Expected completion June 2028.

Halifax County
Intersection of Route 360 (North Main Street) and Route 501 (L P Baily Highway) – Intersection improvement project (roundabout). Change in traffic pattern in place with all-way stop condition for eastbound and westbound Route 360 (North Main Street). Work will be taking place along the shoulders with intermittent lane closures and flagging operations as needed. Expect delays. Expected completion November 2027.
Route 667 (Leda Road) at Bye Creek (36.843876, -79.083870) – Bridge replacement. Leda Road is closed to through traffic from Route 57 (Halifax Road) to the intersection of Route 753 (Beulah Road). Expected completion October 2026.
Route 501: Huell Matthews Highway from Route 744 (East Hyco Road) to Route 96 (Virgilina Road) – Safety improvements. Shoulder widening, rumble strips, and guardrail replacement project. Lane closures expected. Expected completion December 2026.

Lynchburg
Route 460 bridge overlays – This bridge repair project will involve the resurfacing of bridge decks on the Route 460 eastbound and westbound bridges over the Norfolk Southern Railroad and over Wards Road (four bridges total). Nightly lane closures on Route 460 eastbound and westbound are expected the week of October 5 from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. A weekend-long lane closure is expected on Route 460 westbound from October 9-11. Expected project completion December 2026.
Candlers Mountain Road / Business 29 interchange – Interchange improvement and bridge replacement project. Work will be taking place along the ramps, loops, Candlers Mountain Road, and Business 29 in the vicinity of this interchange. Short-term lane closures or detours needed for this work will take place at night, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Lane widths will be reduced to 10 feet on Business 29. Please pay attention to message boards and signs when travelling through this area. The first ramp closures and detours for placement of concrete barriers are expected to occur during nights the week of October 4. Expected completion August 2029.
Intersection of Wards Ferry Road and CVCC Campus Drive – Intersection improvement project (roundabout). Work will be taking place along the shoulders of Wards Ferry Road and CVCC Campus Drive in the vicinity of this intersection. Expect temporary flagging operations on Wards Ferry Road and CVCC Campus Drive. Harvard Street is closed at the Wards Ferry Road intersection, with traffic following a signed detour route along College Park Drive to get to and from Wards Ferry Road. A truck detour will be implemented on October 6 to divert trucks around the work area. Detour signs will be in place. Expected completion November 2027.

Nelson County
Route 29 (Thomas Nelson Highway) and Route 653 (Oak Ridge Road) – Intersection improvement and turn lane project. The right northbound lane of Route 29 is closed from 0.6 miles south of Route 653 to 0.2 miles north of Route 653. The speed limit along Route 29 is reduced to 50 mph while the lane closure is in place. This lane closure will be removed prior to October 8 for the music festival but may need to be reinstalled the following week. Expect temporary flagging operations on Oak Ridge Road as work is performed on the shoulders and ditches. Work is expected to be completed the week of October 12.
