NORFOLK — Several long-term road and lane closures in Norfolk that had been in place to support construction activities for two VDOT interstate projects along the I-64 corridor have reopened this week.
As of Sept. 4, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have completed work to reopen all lanes of travel on Granby Street near the I-64 overpass, restoring travel to two lanes in each direction as construction continues on the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) Norfolk Segment 1A Project. Granby Street had been reduced to a single lane in each direction since March 2024 to accommodate bridge widening and rehabilitation work on the I-64 eastbound and westbound overpasses.
Earlier this week, two additional long-term closures reopened in Norfolk. All travel lanes reopened on westbound East Admiral Taussig Boulevard, which had been reduced to one lane since early 2024 to facilitate work on stormwater facilities between the I-564 off-ramp to Little Creek Road and East Admiral Taussig Boulevard. Additionally, Mason Creek Road reopened to traffic at the I-64 overpass following a long-term full closure associated with construction of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) Expansion Project. Periodic temporary closures and flagging operations may continue in these areas as project construction progresses.
