FARMVILLE, Va. – Construction on the River Road bridge in Farmville will begin on July 6, but park visitors will still be able to access parts of the trail during this time.
The ongoing work will not impact access to High Bridge. Guests can park at High Bridge Station and access the High Bridge. Guests will also be able to access the trail from Farmville to Pamplin.
The River Road bridge provides a connection between the downtown section of the trail to the High Bridge. For the duration of the project, the bridge and the portion of the trail from Main Street heading east to Osborne Road will be closed to the public. The bridge will undergo a full reconstruction, which is expected to take approximately one month to complete.
Visitors can see signs posted at the park now that notify them of these changes.
"Once construction begins there will be signs at three major parking lots, including Rice, High Bridge Station and River Road, that notify trail users about the closure," said High Bridge Trail State Park Manager Daniel Jordan. "The Osborne Road access will remain open during the repair, but this is an access that we are planning to close after the repair is complete. This parking lot is underused by park guests, and there is ample free parking in downtown Farmville for people to use to get access to the trail."
