On Thursday, April 16, Goochland County Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a possible residential structure fire after smoke alarms alerted the neighbors, who reported smoke coming from a home with a dog barking inside. Crews arrived quickly, identified the source of the smoke and removed a dog from the home. Crews ventilated the home and gave oxygen to the dog, who was later returned to its owner. “We are thankful for our community partners that have made sure we have the appropriate equipment to care for our furry friends,” the department later posted on social media.

Annual spring Prohibited Sign Removal Program now underway
Goochland County has begun the spring cycle of its sign removal program. The goal of the program is to control litter and enhance the community’s roadways by removing signs within the road right-of-way. In addition, this program furthers the county’s strategic goals of high-quality core services, specifically public safety and community health as roadside signs can limit visibility creating potentially dangerous situations.
The spring sign removal program will focus on the following corridors:
- Route 6 from Maidens Road to Sandy Hook Road
- Fairgrounds Road at Sandy Hook Road roundabout
- Maidens Road and Fairgrounds Road
- The intersection of Broad Street and Oilville Road
When a prohibited sign is identified, staff will contact the sign owner or organization listed on the sign, who will need to remove the sign within seven calendar days. Following that seven-day period, the sign will be removed and taken to the Central Convenience Center for another seven-day period, after which time, the sign will be disposed. Please note, sign owners will only be contacted when identifiable information is present on the sign.
For more information on this program, please visit www.goochlandva.us/littercontrol. To report a sign placed in the right-of-way, please contact Goochland County General Services at (804) 556-5331.
