The Lions of Virginia Foundation recently awarded its Distinguished Humanitarian Award 2023 – 2024 to Powhatan’s Betty Bowman. Bowman was born and raised in Powhatan, graduated from Powhatan High School, and earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University. She worked for the State of Virginia for 34 years in various roles, and she’s been a very active member of her church since childhood, serving on several committees and chairing some as well. Since joining the Powhatan Lions in 2013, Bowman has served as a director, vice president, and president. She has participated in most of the club’s projects, including eye-screenings, “beer-cart lady” at the Golf tournaments, “bartender” at the Steer Roasts, co-chair at the last Labor Day parade and as the liaison for the Lions’ work the Powhatan Food Pantry.
