Virginia-Based Behavioral Health Practice Launches Online Child, Adolescent and Young Adult Psychiatry Across Florida
Resilience Counseling & Social Skills Center is excited to announce an important new chapter in our growth: Resilience is expanding to Florida.
For the first time, Resilience will provide services outside of Virginia, bringing specialized psychiatric care to children, adolescents, young adults and families throughout the state of Florida through telehealth.
The expansion is being led by Hadley McPherson, MD, a Florida-licensed, board-certified psychiatrist who provides psychiatric evaluation, treatment and medication management for patients ages 4 through 30.
Dr. McPherson is now accepting new Florida patients through secure telehealth appointments, making Resilience's psychiatric services accessible statewide.
Expanding Access Beyond Virginia
Since its founding, Resilience Counseling & Social Skills Center has focused on building comprehensive, accessible behavioral health services for the communities we serve.
What began as a Virginia-based counseling practice has grown into a multidisciplinary behavioral health organization offering psychotherapy, psychiatric services, psychological testing, groups and other specialized mental health services.
Our expansion into Florida represents the next step in that growth.
Rather than limiting access to families who happen to live near a particular office, our Florida program is being launched as a telehealth-first psychiatric service. Eligible patients can connect with Dr. McPherson from communities throughout the state, including Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Sarasota, Naples, Gainesville, Tallahassee and beyond.
All Florida clinical appointments are currently provided virtually, allowing patients and families to receive specialized psychiatric care from home.
Meet Hadley McPherson, MD
Dr. Hadley McPherson is a board-certified psychiatrist whose practice focuses on children, adolescents and young adults.
She completed her general psychiatry residency in Miami, Florida, before completing specialized fellowship training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Her approach emphasizes understanding the whole patient rather than focusing on a diagnosis or medication alone. Psychiatric evaluations consider symptoms alongside developmental history, family observations, school or college functioning, previous treatment, medical history, sleep, medications and the patient's individual goals.
Dr. McPherson's clinical areas of focus include:
- ADHD
- Anxiety disorders
- Depression
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Mood disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Trauma-related disorders and PTSD
- Psychosis
- Aggression and behavioral concerns
- Insomnia and sleep-related concerns
- Other emotional and psychiatric concerns affecting children, adolescents and young adults
Her practice includes patients from age 4 through age 30, allowing her to work across several important developmental stages—from childhood and adolescence through college and the transition into adulthood.
Addressing the Challenge of Finding Specialized Psychiatric Care
Finding the right psychiatric provider can be difficult. For families searching specifically for child and adolescent psychiatry, the challenge can be even greater.
Location can create an additional barrier. Families outside major metropolitan areas may have fewer local options, while families in larger communities may still encounter limited appointment availability or lengthy travel requirements.
Resilience's Florida program was designed to reduce some of those barriers.
Through telehealth, a family does not have to live near Tampa—or near a physical Resilience office—to establish care with Dr. McPherson. Eligible patients located throughout Florida can participate in appointments through secure video visits from home.
Telehealth can also provide greater flexibility for families balancing school, work, extracurricular activities and other responsibilities.
More Than Medication Management
While medication can be an important component of psychiatric treatment, Resilience's approach to psychiatric care extends beyond simply prescribing medication.
An initial psychiatric evaluation provides an opportunity to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the patient's symptoms, history, previous treatment, current challenges and overall clinical picture.
When medication is clinically appropriate, Dr. McPherson works with patients and families to discuss treatment options, potential benefits and risks, alternatives and appropriate monitoring.
Follow-up appointments allow for continued assessment of symptoms and progress, discussion of concerns or potential side effects, and adjustments to the treatment plan when clinically appropriate.
Treatment recommendations are individualized to each patient.
Specialized ADHD Evaluation and Treatment
ADHD is one of Dr. McPherson's clinical areas of focus for both younger patients and adults.
Attention difficulties can affect school, college, employment, relationships, organization, emotional regulation and everyday responsibilities. At the same time, difficulties with concentration or academic performance do not automatically mean that someone has ADHD.
A psychiatric evaluation can consider the broader clinical picture, including developmental history, school or occupational functioning, sleep, anxiety, mood symptoms, previous evaluations and treatment, medical history and other factors that may contribute to attention or behavioral concerns.
When ADHD treatment is appropriate, Dr. McPherson can work with patients and families to develop an individualized treatment plan.
Supporting Young Adults Through Age 30
Resilience's Florida psychiatry program also serves young adults through age 30.
The transition from adolescence into adulthood can introduce new challenges involving college, careers, relationships, independence and increased responsibilities. Existing mental health concerns may become more noticeable during these transitions, while new concerns can also emerge.
By working with patients across childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, Dr. McPherson's practice provides an opportunity for psychiatric care that considers the patient's developmental stage as well as their individual circumstances.
Now Accepting New Florida Patients
Dr. McPherson is currently building her Florida patient panel, which means new-patient appointment availability may be greater during the initial launch of the program.
Resilience has established a Tampa virtual access point, but patients do not need to live in Tampa or the Tampa Bay area to receive services. Florida psychiatric appointments are currently provided through telehealth to eligible patients located throughout the state.
This expansion represents an exciting milestone for Resilience Counseling & Social Skills Center and an opportunity to bring the model of behavioral health care we have developed in Virginia to a new community.
We look forward to welcoming Florida families and young adults to Team Resilience.
